June 19, 2013 - Yellow Jackets - I was probably close enough on this one, A little shot of insecticide would have been a better choice :-o)

Thank you for all of the kind comments on my Robber Fly, it was a fun photo to share - papa
June 18, 2013 "Front yard hunter" I found this handsome beast (Robber Fly) waiting for its next meal while sitting on a desert willow branch. Adults prey on a variety of arthropods; considered to be beneficial insects, adults, handled improperly, are capable of inflicting a painful bite. Captured with a Canon 100 mm L series macro lens.
June 17, 2013 "Cicada Killer" this one is a Monday eye opener! I never have much luck capture these monsters, but this one was a poser and I got several good shots with my macro -
June 16, 2013 Yellow Lily - one of our front yard plants
June 15, 2013 - not a great photo, but its a Viceroy. not as large and has more stripping than a Monarch. We do not see many of these.
June 14, 2013 Eastern Pondhawk (female - the male is blue) I looks like there are more dragons around as we move in to summer, I saw several cruising in the late afternoon sky yesterday as they fed on small insects over our yard - I use a book to id the unknown (to me) ones but here is a good site:

June 13, 2013 Widow Skimmer (female) We saw several dragonflies at the park yesterday, I had left my 50-500 lens home but I was able to get close enough for several captures using my 100mm macro. This is my best capture ever of a female widow skimmer. The male has a white abdomen and wing tips so they are easy to distinguish.
June 12, 2013 "Golden Dragonfly" I spotted this female "Neon Skimmer" visiting my pond yesterday. Usually they stick around a while so I will be watching for her again today. She was flying figure eights around the pond then roosting in our red bud tree for a couple of minutes before repeating her flight plan. There are not many dragons around this year so I was pretty happy to catch this one.
